Laptop Requirements
The software used in this course is designed for Gnu/Linux operating systems. If you have a windows operating system, you can use you Windows Subsystem for Linux, or install Linux as a virtual machine(e.g.Virtual Box). If you are using MacOS, you will need to install a virtual machine. Whichever option you take, we recommend installing Ubuntu Mate (22.04 or 24.04 . If you are unsure about any of the above, please contact you IT department in the first instance.
If you wish to use some other variant of Linux or, especially, you have experience of software development under MacOS, please contact

All accommodation, meals and refreshments are provided free to delegates and to the workshop trainers.
Travel bursaries
The CarbonRecycling NIBB has funding to support travel up to £100 per delegate. To take advantage of this, please request a travel claim form from alan.burbidge@nottingham.ac.uk
Things to bring with you:
Bring a lap-top with a recent installation of Linux (Debian or Ubuntu) as the primary OS or as a virtual machine to which you have root access. WSL with either of these should also work as long as you have X enabled - check that you can run the "xeyes" program. If you want to use another distribution please contact alan.burbidge@nottingham.ac.uk , and if you are unsure about any of the above, please contact your IT department. No previous knowledge of the field is assumed.
